Deck Your Table

Deck Your Table

I’ve always enjoyed tabletop design. I think that goes back to when I was a child and we’d have gatherings with my large extended family. I remember walking into my relatives’ houses. There was always a set table with a gorgeous centerpiece to reflect anything festival or special occasion was being celebrated. Centerpieces are great points of focus for us designing junkies, since they can be switched out regularly. In comparison to a brand new sectional or a kitchen remodel, all these are cheap commitments that pack a good deal of visual punch.

The designs are endless and are limited only by creativity. There are seasonal and style-specific centerpieces to try in any home and in any room. Centerpieces can be used to get a special occasion table or just to freshen up the room or outside area. Have a look at these great centerpiece ideas and imagine them in your home to freshen up things for the season.

Orchids create a great centerpiece. Planted orchids, arranged here in a concrete-inspired bowl, are known to last up to two months before their petals begin to fall.

Vases are not just for flowers anymore. Try out searching in your yard for greenery such as a fern or palm. These single fronds create a terrific minimalist statement. Notice the way the different-shape vases increase the sculptural feel of this centerpiece grouping.

Feathers, anybody? This woodsy centerpiece made me thinking of autumn and of leaves’ turning colours. As the seasons change, so do our choices for centerpieces. All these warm-tone feathers arranged artfully in a decorative tin work.

Bottles and jars (in this instance, in a classic French bottle carrier) are great for flowering branches of any sort.

Palm leaves usually last more than fresh flowers and give a strong dose of color and texture. A wide-bottom vase with a narrow neck is a perfect shape for palm leaves or other single branches.

Play with scale. This centerpiece produces a gorgeous statement in this outdoor loggia. This scale could do the job just as well to get a headboard on a large entry or foyer table.
