In 2026, California homeowners are replacing thirsty lawns with designed, layered gardens that conserve water and support birds, pollinators, and healthier soil. Rewilding blends native, climate-appropriate plants, paths, seating, and habitat—not neglect. Thoughtful planning, sheet mulching, grouped irrigation, and phased installation create beautiful, lower-maintenance landscapes built for changing conditions.

Homeowners increasingly replace high-maintenance lawns with rewilded landscapes that restore ecological balance. Native plants substitute for turf, minimizing water use, chemical applications, and mowing while attracting pollinators and wildlife. This approach yields healthier soil, savings on expenses, and a deeper bond with the natural world, all with reduced effort.
