2012 Color Trends: Blues for the Kitchen and Bath

This 2012 Color Trends show is about five hot color trends projected for the year. Specifically, I’ll be showing you how you can incorporate them into your kitchen and bath in a means that is logical for your preference and your home.

Blue will be a powerful color in 2012. Sherwin-Williams envisions indigo, lace and water tones. Benjamin Moore’s color of this season is really a watery blue-green. Behr and Yolo are trending aqua tones. Every one of these hues can work beautifully in your kitchen and baths with the most popular cabinet, countertop and flooring options. This ideabook is intended to offer you ideas and inspiration for going blue with thoughtful style.

Traditional blue and white kitchens comprise white cabinetry from blue painted walls. This modern space shows how you can turn that timeless blend around, creating a fresh new look.

Cobalt Skyy- Vetrazzo Recycled Glass Countertops

I really like the drama and story of those recycled glass countertops from Vetrazzo. Each shirt is made from Skyy’s trademark blue vodka bottles.

In this high-drama kitchen, the glistening blue cupboards steal the display, but you could just as easily pair them Cobalt Skyy shirts with organic walnut to let them star on their own.

Backsplashes are lovely in watery blueeyes. There are several techniques to accomplish the look. One is with large-format area tile, as shown here. Another is with shimmering blue mosaic tiles (typically sheet-mounted for simple installation). My favorite employs a solid sheet of colored glass. (It’s also the easiest to keep and the most modern.) If there isn’t an installer in your area who will do so, or when the price tag is out of reach, the large-format tile will probably achieve an extremely comparable look.

Watery blue pairs beautifully with the black, white and stainless within this kitchen, but could also work with cinnamon spice cherry, walnut or even natural walnut cabinets.

Slate is a favorite kitchen and bathroom flooring substance in many all-natural hues. Its blue tones, as shown here, make it especially perfect with this color trend. If you don’t want to have to seal your floor, think about durable rectified porcelain tile that resembles slate. This was the choice that I made for my Florida kitchen. It looks great with cinnamon or natural cherry cabinets and light countertops that are neutral.

Black-white checkerboard and harlequin tile patterns are timeless in kitchens and baths. How about incorporating blue instead? You are able to go trend-friendly indigo, teal or denim to fit the fashion, but be sure to select a shade that works long-term with your space. Tile is not a fast, simple, economical change out.

You’re not likely to see a blue tub being offered for sale. You can always have one painted, but a much better way to incorporate blue to your bathroom is with a gentle blue-tinted tile tub surround. It can give your bathroom a relaxed, natural sense that ties into this cool color tendency — no paint remover required.

Indigo is a hot shade of blue this season, and it matches as well with pale cabinetry as aqua and lace, albeit more radically. Should you go this dark, you’ll want as much all-natural light and brightness because this kitchen has.

Contemporary Bathroom Faucets And Showerheads

Sometimes, color shows up in unexpected places, such as in tap accents, as exhibited in those handles with blue-green accents. Traditionally, taps with glass grips are ultra formal. I adore this contemporary update.
