Guest Groups: Freshen Your Furniture With Slipcovers
If you have children or pets, like to change the appearance of your insides often or enjoy eating on the couch, you might wish to look at adding slipcovered furniture to your house. Done in machine-washable cloth, they’re a snap to clean and may be altered easily.
Below are a few things that you should keep in mind while slipcovering furniture:
Decide whether a furniture piece is worth slipcovering, as obtaining slipcovers made often costs up to reupholstering a piece.Check on for slipcovering professionals and their testimonials or check cloth stores such as Calico Corners.Wash the slipcover fabric prior to fabrication. Try washing a swatch first. The fabricator may cost $1 to $2 each lawn to wash the cloth to you, which may be worth it if you have large amounts. Buy at least 10 percent more cloth to account for shrinkage or to get throw cushions made (or to rear expensive designer cloth cushions).Look for white, off-white, taupe or oatmeal cloth on sale or in a discount outlet. I use 100-percent linen, cotton/linen mixes, cotton basket weaves or cotton twill fabrics.Generally stick with solid fabrics so you may change your appearance with pillows and other colors. Additionally, white is good for cleaning with mild bleach and stain removers.Consider slipcovers for dining chairs or bar stools (where food and drink stains are widespread) — they’re not only for the sofa.Below are cases of slipcovers, along with links to stores where you can purchase slipcovered furniture. I had someone locally fabricate these oatmeal linen slipcovers. I wash them in the washing machine, take them out slightly moist and smooth them out by hand on the cushions — and they are like new!
