Guest Picks: Baking and Decorating Goodies for Fall Treats
Fall is and always has been my favorite season. I’m happy to leave the hot, sticky summer. While I understand why many have a fire for spring, to me personally, it only suggests that the hot, sticky summer is ahead. No, I’m all about fall: the crisp chill in the air, the promise of soon-to-fall snow (without the actual inconvenience of said snow), the aromas and tastes of cinnamon and ginger and pumpkin. But anybody who knows me knows I’m not just about scents and tastes, but about making food that resembles fall, too: pumpkin and apple marshmallow pops, leaf and squirrel cookies, turkey cupcakes. Here are a few goodies that might help you capture the look and taste of fall in the kitchen. — Meaghan in The Decorated Cookie
Williams-Sonoma
Emile Henry Artisan Mini Ruffled Pie Dish – $22
You have to bake pies in the fall. I swear there’s a law somewhere. Whether it’s in this elaborate dish or a tin pan from the current market, you must bake pies in the fall.
King Arthur Flour
Apple Peeler, Corer and Slicer – $24.95
I have not the slightest idea where I’d keep such a single-use contraption in my little kitchen, but if I had plenty of room for cool stuff and random gadgets, then I’d add this vintage-feeling apple peeler.
Fancy Flours
Rycraft Maple Leaf Cookie Stamp – $11.50
Stamp it for easy-peasy cookie decorating.
CopperGifts
Squirrel Cookie Cutter, Mini – $7.95
While I’m kind of a little fearful of squirrels in real life (I reside in a major city where squirrels have no fear of people), somehow for fall baking I find them cute.
Layer Cake Shop
Selections would be the best. All you need to do in order to add flair to your cupcake is open the package and adhere.
Layer Cake Shop
Pumpkin Bakery Labels – $1.75
So you remember which is which (I’m thinking pumpkin and apple butter here), pick up a few labels. These are also excellent for if you create 100 jars of pumpkin butter and want to give a few as gifts.
Layer Cake Shop
Can not it be ever so lovely if sprinkle leaves fell from trees? Two or three years back, I utilized these sprinkles to create falling leaf cookies.
Crate&Barrel
Pocket Pumpkin Pie Mold – $8.95
I want this. I know, I know, it is just another one in the category of “single-use things to need to shop,” but it is so dang adorable.
Bake It Pretty
Cover any sweet together with sprinkles to add sparkle.
The Spoon Sisters
Silicone Turkey Cakelette – $21
I really don’t understand. I’m a bit skeptical about these Turkey Cakelette pans. I discover that it is so tough to bake a cake that keeps its shape and layout. I guess that’s what the decorating is right for.
Kitchen Krafts
Acorn Cakelet Pan – $34
Despite my cakelette pan disbelief, I’d try these acorns.
globalsugarart.com
You can apply these pre-printed, edible icing sheets to more than just cakes. Cut the sheets to match cupcakes, cookies or even marshmallows.
Save-on-crafts
Natural Round Sticks – $4.99
Bear with me, I know it has to be odd to add store-bought sticks with fall baking, but I’d use these as choices to skewers for caramel apples.
Fancy Flours
Linzer Autumn Cookie Cutter Set – $12
I adore this Linzer cookie cutter collection. The filling does the decorating for you.
Bake It Pretty
Orange Tilt-a-Whirl Baking Cups – $3.75
Candy corn, candy corn, everywhere candy corn. I have observed a ridiculous number of candy corn–inspired treats: cookies, madeleines, cake pops, cakes, even waffles. Funny thing is, few individuals really like candy corn, only foods that look like it.
New York Cake & Baking Distributor
Harvest Whoopie Pie – $11.99
I can’t ever hear the words “whoopie pie” and not think about Bob Eubanks and The Newlywed Game. Dang, I’m old. However back to baking. This really is a fall-themed whoopie pie pan. Hee hee, “whoopie.”
Sur La Table
Paper Loaf Molds – $0.75
It would be so much more economical to bake and give gifts in such paper loaf pans compared to foil ones.
Amazon
Meri Meri Fall Leaves Cupcake Kit – $12.99
You can make any of your preferred desserts and turn them into collapse treats with cupcake wrappers and selections. Meri Meri has some of my favorites.
Chef Tools
Fat Daddio’s Autumn Delight Impression Rolling Pin – $26.33
I have yet to ever try an impression rolling pin. This one is awfully pretty though.
Country Kitchen SweetArt
I can’t decide yet what I’d bake with caramel flavoring, but it certainly says “fall” to me personally.
